Join us for one of our most exciting events of the year as we welcome our new scouts to their first troop outdoor event and campout. It also kicks off our camping season as we march into springtime.
This event is our chance to get to know the new scouts and teach them scout spirit by demonstrating the patrol method with cooking, patrol cheer and showing off patrol boxes and flags among all other things.
It is also a great opportunity to fulfill cooking requirements for rank advancements, so if you are interested in taking advantage of the opportunity, please email your patrol leader along with Mr Grosso and Gonzalez as soon as possible. Menus need to be finalized seven days prior to the event.
Patrol leaders/Assistant Patrol leaders, this is your chance to flex your patrols, so make sure your patrol boxes are stocked and you bring your flag and other patrol spirit items.
Tenured scouts (all scouts other than new scouts) should arrive at 6pm Friday night April 14thand be prepared for one night of cabin camping and one night of tent camping. Friday night we will prepare the camp for the weekend along with a cracker barrel Friday night around the campfire. PLEASE EAT DINNER PRIOR TO COMING.
New scouts should arrive Saturday morning at 10AM and be prepared for one night of cabin camping. PLEASE EAT BREAKFAST PRIOR TO COMING. This is your chance to get to know the tenured scouts and the various patrols. We will have a fun day planned full of food, scout skills and games as well as a campfire program followed by TAPS and lights out.
All new scouts will be sleeping together in a cabin, and it should be nice and warm and be a great way to break into camping without mom and dad. PLEASE encourage your scouts to stay the night as we want to promote independence as quickly as possible as we move towards other events this spring and ultimately, summer camp.
If for any reason, they cannot stay the night, please plan to pick them up at 9:30pm on Saturday night. Pick up location will be at the Hearst campsite.
Drop off and Pick up Specifics - Yellow Gate by Dining Hall (see map)
Once you arrive at camp, head down the entrance way and follow signs for Cub World / Dining Hall. When you come to the fork with a flag and, make a right and you will head straight towards the dining hall. When you get to the dining hall you will see a yellow gate. The yellow gate/dining hall will be the pickup and drop off location. Note, it is possible you may not get very close to the yellow gate due to build up in traffic, so use the dining hall as the reference point.
Scouts will then need to grab their gear and walk down the road past the yellow gate, and then make a left at the first fork in the road and it will lead you to Hearst Cabin. Look for signs to Hearst cabin and reference your map.
This will be a three to four football field walk from the yellow gate to the campsite. Those with patrol boxes, if you cannot figure out a way to get it to the campsite, we can ask the ranger to drive some items for us.
If parents want to walk their scouts to the campsite, simply park on the side of the road. Adult leaders staying for the weekend should also park alongside the road.
Equipment / Gear Required:
