About the Event

EVENT FLYER

Saturday: The group will meet by the trailer at the Germonds parking lot at 8:00 am (depart at 8:30am), to split up food and camping gear. The group will then drive to the drop off at the roadside parking area on the left on Route 106. Enter the PIP northbound and travel to x14. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Willow Grove Road. Drive about 3 min / 2 miles to the roadside parking spot on the left side of the road. 41.23006, -74.06103

(Be Prepared to drive your scout to the drop off spot unless a ride is arranged ahead of time.)

Led by members of the PLC, we will follow the Suffern-Bear Mt trail (yellow) past the Orak Ruins to the recently repaired Fire Tower. After a brief rest, we continue on to the Big Hill Shelter to set up camp and tents around the shelter. After lunch we will follow the Long Path for a side hike. Our cooks will prepare dinner when we return to the shelter.

Troop Guides and Instructors will have an opportunity to fulfill their leadership requirements by helping novice backpackers select sites, pitch tents and complete rank requirements.

There will be a competition for the best lighting decorations with a prize for the winner! How will you decorate your tent in the woods?

Sunday: After breakfast, hike out to Route 106 (same as the drop off) for pickup at 9:00 am.

Pack light and tight, remember that we will be carrying troop gear and food in addition to our own. A list of required personal gear is available on the Troop website.

No cotton clothing. MUST BRING WATER. Each scout needs a facemask and hand sanitizer. Each scout must have their own tent, only siblings can share a tent. Troop tents can be signed out Saturday morning.

Please plan on cold weather. This is December, and the weather can vary greatly from day to night. We will be going in all weather conditions.

Meals:

Everyone should bring their own Saturday lunch. The Troop will provide dinner and dessert for Sat. and a light breakfast Sunday. Bring lunch, healthy snacks for trail and eat a good breakfast on Saturday.
