5 Mile Hike – Cat’s Elbow and W. Mountain Shelter

This hike is for all Troop scouts. Great way to start the Fall Scouting season!

We will meet at Germonds Church parking lot at 8:00am and depart for the trail head at 8:15am. After leaving Germonds, we will drive to the Anthony Wayne Rec. Area located just off Exit 17 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway. 

Follow the access road past the first parking lot to the ‘far south parking lot’ where we will meet at the trailhead.

The hike will follow the Ramapo-Dunderberg trail and the Appalachian Trail as we view some awesome panoramic views. We will also get to see Cats Elbow, Timp Pass and the West Mountain Shelter.

ALL hikers MUST wear hiking boots.

Eat a good breakfast, bring nut-free snacks, and plenty of water (at least 2 liters).

In accordance with Covid-19 protocols, scouts must be prepared with a mask and hand sanitizer.

Be prepared to with a ride to the trail head and pick up at the end of the hike.

Equipment / Gear Required

Standard gear for early fall hike (sunscreen, hat, rain gear). Hiking boots required.

Bring water, First Aid   Kit, trail snacks and optional lunch. (nut free) Must have mask and hand sanitizer
