About the Event
Was Paul Revere really a hero, why did John Hancock sign his name so big? Was George Washington a bad general and why did the redcoats wear red? Was Alexander Hamilton anything to sing about and what about the whole Sam Adams and beer thing? If you really want to “spill the tea” regarding the true story of the birth of our country, then you need to join Mr. Amendola for a behind the scenes tour of the American Revolution.
The focus of our weekend program will be a “hike” of the Freedom Trail in downtown Boston on Saturday. The hike will cover numerous historical sites including the Old State House, Boston Massacre Site, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere’s House, Old North Church, the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill, just to name a few. Plus, since it is a Mr. Amendola hike, a side visit to the Italian North End for some delicious cannoli.
Participation in the Freedom Trail hike is intended to help Scouts, as well as parents and unit leaders, become more aware of the historic significance of Boston, Massachusetts and its role in American heritage. Scouts can also work towards completing certain requirements for the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge but only if their blue cards are signed in advance,
We have reserved two cabins at Sayre Reservation in Milton, Massachusetts (225 miles from New City). We will meet at Germonds Church at 6pm on Friday, May 20th for departure and will return before dinner on Sunday, May 22.
The Troop will provide breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday. Scouts will need to buy lunch on Saturday so Scouts should bring some spending money.
