Welcome Spring Backpacking! Let’s gear up and get out!

We will be meeting at Germonds on Saturday to secure troop gear, firewood, roll call, and gear checks. We will head to Silvermine Lake via Palisades to Seven Lakes Drive.

Please be prepared to drive there, although carpooling is possible depending on attendance.

We will hike Yellow trail along Silvermine Lake, crossing Bockey Swamp Brook, and continuing to William Brien Memorial Shelter. Take in the scenic views of the lake on the first leg of the hike. If the shelter is available, we will set up there. Area is available for tents as well. We will set up camp, collect and process firewood, and have lunch. Cooks will prepare and serve dinner, and we will settle into an outdoor evening.

Temperatures can still get cold overnight so plan accordingly: warm layers for evening, sleeping bag, etc. Pack light and tight, remember that we will be carrying troop gear and food in addition to our own. A list of required personal gear is available on the Troop website.

NO COTTON! WOOL OR SYNTHETIC ONLY! MUST BRING WATER!

Meals: Everyone should eat breakfast and bring their own lunch for Saturday. The Troop will provide dinner and dessert or snack for Saturday and a light breakfast Sunday. Pack extra snacks.  Sunday: After breakfast, hike out to pick up point back at Silvermine Lake parking area. You must also bring 3+ liters of water, for yourself and to share with the troop for cooking. ***REMEMBER, NO NUTS or PEANUT BUTTER***

Equipment/Gear Required:

See troop website for winter packing list, 3+ liters of water, disposable warmers for toes in sleeping bags, warm layer for evening, wool socks

Troop Policy Reminder

Electronic Devices, to include iPods, Game Boys and similar devices are not allowed to be brought on trips by any Scout. Cell phones may be possessed by a Scout but may not be used except in an emergency situation or by permission of an adult leader.
