About the Event
Scouts, you have an opportunity to be a part of the FIRST EVER Troop 97 Crew to participate in the 2024 Polaris ATV Experience High Adventure trip – August 3rdto August 11th, 2024!
WHAT IS THE ATV EXPERIENCE? Scouts will travel to West Virginia to the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve where you and your leaders will experience 60+ miles of the back-woods terrain from your own ATV, traveling from one beautiful location to the next all while stopping at vistas, natural landmarks and teachable moments. Trails will generally be easy to intermediate in difficulty and include a mixture of technical features, wide open sections and lots of mud!!
Each day you will be on the trail at a different location. On the final day the entire crew can select to hang out at Goodrich Lake the entire day OR go on a half day whitewater rafting trip after lunch for an additional fee. Please also note, the dates above include the two additional days needed for travel to and from the Reserve.

The approximate total cost for this trip is $2,500 per person. There are a total of 12 spots (including adults) for this trip. Once the final crew is assigned, additional details will be provided. A deposit of $200 will be due immediately at that time.
Minimum Age Requirement: ATV participants must be 14 years of age by the date of their arrival.
Weight Requirements:
· Ages 14 and 15 - under 215 pounds, regardless of height
· Ages 16 and up under 295 pounds, regardless of height
· Under 16 that weigh over 215 pounds are NOT eligible for the ATV experience
Participants must be in good health evidenced by the BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (no other form is acceptable) filled out and signed by their doctor within the past 12 months. Every participant should meet BSA Height and Weight Guidelines. Due to restrictions on safety and rescue equipment, no persons weighing more than 295lbs. are allowed to participate, regardless of height.
All participants must know and use the Scout Oath and Law as their guide to appropriate behavior at Summit Bechtel Reserve.
This is an amazing event, with memories that will last a lifetime. However, there is very limited space and if more eligible Scouts wish to sign up for the trip than we can take, we will apply the following criteria to determine priority of acceptance:
1.) Demonstrate Scout Spirit. Scouts who are active in the troop will have priority over those who are not active. “Active” is generally defined as having participated in at least 50% of troop meetings, activities, backpacks, hikes, service projects and campouts during the past year.
2.) Rank advancement.
3.) BSA Swimmer level proficient.
4.) Some preference will be given to older Scouts because younger scouts will presumably have other opportunities for high adventure before they complete their scouting careers.
5.) Adult Participants: Limited to 3 adults who are active (as defined for Scouts) will have priority. Adults must be registered with BSA as adult leaders and have completed BSA required leader training. At a minimum, ONE of the adults, preferably TWO, will need to complete Wilderness First Aid as required by Summit Bechtel Reserve.
