Winter 10-Mile Hike '25

This hike does have steep inclines up Dunderberg Mountain. Scouts should have completed at least a 5 mile hike with the troop and are prepared for this 10 mile hike. We will finish the hike at the start location.  

We will start at the Route 9W trailhead and follow the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail. The trail will follow parts of the unfinished Dunderberg Spiral Railway and take us to some scenic outlooks overlooking the Hudson River. We will learn some history about the Spiral Railway Project that was started in 1890 and see the railbed as well as some tunnels. We will follow the ridgeline and cross Bald Mountain as well as The Timp.  Seeing a mine or two are also part of the hike. 

Make sure to wear good hiking boots (no sneakers) and synthetic socks (no cotton). Pack for a day hike, including at least 3 liters of water, snacks…
