An Eagle Has Landed: Logan Hurler

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Logan Hurler sat for his Final Eagle Board and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout!  He was escorted by Mr. Poholsky.

Logan spoke about his project where he made updates and additions to a riding trail for his beneficiary, COPS Barn. Logan began his relationship with COPS Barn when he took horse riding lessons 5 years ago. He saw a riding trail with various stations to help develop and enhance gross and fine motor, and cognitive skills in children with disabilities. He noticed station materials were a bit weathered and in need of an update. Logan led a crew of scouts, friends, and family at refurbishing, sanding, staining, and adding a new PVC pipe ball drop game, which he designed and executed himself. Logan learned the value of delegating and depending on others to get a large amount of work done. He was pleased with his level of effort and input into his project, as his days went especially well. Logan’s leadership positions include Den Chief (where he saw his scouts to their crossover), Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader for Barbed Wire Patrol, Outdoor Ethics Guide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Chaplain’s Aide for Philmont Trek, and Senior Patrol Leader. He talked about depending on and empowering his ASPL’s, and has visions for the troop for the rest of his time as SPL. Logan’s Favorite Merit Badges are SCUBA and Small Boat Sailing.

He learned life skills through cooking, and was heavily influenced by the Citizenship Merit Badges. He says “the Cits” tie together Scouts and the real world, and made him think about how things relate and are interconnected. Logan’s most memorable trips were Sea Base Scuba Adventure and Philmont. He says Philmont was a great culmination of his first Intro to Backpacking trip, which was a game changer. He also enjoyed all of his Feast on the Mountain trips. His Sea Base experience inspired his interest in pursuing a career in Marine Biology and Oceanography. Logan is also a Sea Scout, and earned “Sea Scout of the Year” in 2024.

Logan described how leadership skills he gained from scouting began to apply to other areas like school. He found himself stepping up to organize group projects because he just knew what needed to be done through his leadership experiences. Logan's advice to scouts is to take the time to appreciate the activities, go on as many adventures as possible, go camping, and learn how to backpack. He says he absolutely had fun on his journey through the hikes, camping trips, and growth experiences involving leadership. Logan remembers being a new scout and thinking Eagle was so far away. We wish him a wonderful experience  as he will be off to college after his trip to Northern Tier this August. Thanks for the memories Logan!
