On Saturday, April 20, 2024, Owen Litvak sat for his Final Eagle Board and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout! He was escorted by Mr. Olson and Mr. Grosso.
Owen spoke about his project where he planned and constructed two Gaga Pits at the JCC for use during their summer program. He reflected on how important planning was for the success of his project, and how he enjoyed the process of taking an idea and seeing it through to reality.
Owen reflected on his time in Scouting and how he began taking on leadership roles in Middle School as a young Assistant Patrol Leader. This experience was important to him, as he found himself looking to older scouts to find his way. He eventually became a Den Chief, and held this position in high regard. He appreciated giving back to younger scouts and recalled the sense of importance and responsibility he felt while wearing his Den Chief cords. He also served a Troop Guide, another rewarding experience as he got to impart his skills onto less experienced scouts.
Owen spoke about his favorite trip, the Raftery, and says it was unlike any other campout. He recalls being on a raft on the river with good friends and constructing a sail that actually worked. He was also very proud of earning the Marksman award. Owen talked about how being brave, trustworthy, and kind were important points of the Scout Law for him. He recognized that through Scouting he had many opportunities to develop these qualities within himself and mature as a scout and individual. Through his project and the program, Owen learned important lessons about leading self that he plans to employ in his college endeavors. His advice to new scouts is to make the most of every Scouting adventure, and to focus on the good times more than the rainy tents. Most importantly, he believes that having fun is the ultimate positive perspective.
